Because it's the right thing to do: A revised grading scale

Dr. Leslie Willey, our Vice President for Academic Affairs, sent an email to all of our undergraduate students this afternoon, answering the question we've been hearing a lot over the past few days:

Is Stephens going to let our undergraduate students opt for a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading scale this semester?

The answer to that question is YES. For the first time in memory, the College is going to allow its undergrads to choose to be graded on an S/U scale in all of their classes.

Dr. Willey is working to develop a system that is consistent, fair, and transparent -- in other words, an equitable alternative to our usual assessment process. She'll be sharing the details sometime next week.

In the meantime, please join me in thanking our amazing faculty, who have continued to do everything possible to serve our students -- including recognizing that flexibility in curriculum AND evaluation are in these times the right thing to do.
